What You Need To Know About Yorkie Puppies

The Yorkshire Terrier was originally bred for the purpose of being used as a ratter and hunter that was also small enough to get into fox and badger burrows.

The Yorkshire Terrier is also an excellent breed choice for those who don't have a lot of space for a dog. Just keep in mind that each dog is an individual. Many factors are involved in determining if a dog is good with children and family. The most important factor you should consider when choosing a Yorkie puppy is the family lineage since it has a great impact on the general disposition of the puppy. You also want to make sure you children can give your Yorkie puppy a nurturing and loving environment otherwise the personality of your puppy won't matter.

After you decide to get a Yorkie puppy you need to properly prepare your house for your new arrival. First it is very important that you find a veterinarian whom you are comfortable with and trust. It can be a good idea to talk with other Yorkshire Terrier owners in your area to get some recommendations of veterinarians.

It is important to schedule a check up with your veterinarian as soon as possible once you get your Yorkie puppy. Between three and ten days after you get your new puppy is the best time to take them to the veterinarian. This gives your puppy some time to adjust to the new surroundings at your home. A Yorkie puppy is typically affected by stress, which is why it is best to keep stress to a minimum in order to avoid health problems.

If your puppy begins to act strange or doesn't want to eat then you should take them to the vet right away. For at least two weeks keep feeding your Yorkie puppy the same food that the breeder used and then slowly start mixing it with your new dog food. Feed your dog at least three to four times a day and then add a bit of warm water if your dog isn't eating. You also want to keep up a proper grooming schedule that includes checking the ears and clipping the nails.
