Puppy toilet

Ideas to make toilet training puppy very easy

In the previous article I have mentioned that as part of puppy's toilet training, you should take him out to the designated area after each meal. It is possible though that after about 10 minutes he has not done anything yet. The best is to take him inside now but to keep a very watchful eye on him to prevent accidents. There are many factors that can disturb puppy while outside that will prevent him from going to the toilet when you take him out after his meal. Rain, flapping washing on the wash line or any other kind of noise can prevent puppy from going to the toilet and once inside he may decide to go. Scolding puppy at this stage will serve no purpose at all and can only slow down puppy toilet training. Deal with it in a calm way and remember to try and avoid it by being more alert next time when you bring puppy back inside. Never ignore a request to go out as this can only prolong the toilet training of puppy.

The average Puppy normally has to go to the potty about six times a day. Most important!! Under no circumstances withhold water from puppy in an effort to reduce the formation of urine. This can have devastating effects on puppy's urinary tract and can cause permanent damage! When puppy is sleeping, the production of urine slows down normally and if you take puppy to the potty just before you go to bed and then first thing in the morning again, there should not be any problems. Remember by establishing a routine, toilet training puppy will be that much easier.

Remember that puppy can not relate something that has happened previously and it therefore serves no purpose to scold puppy if he had an accident during the night nor is it any use to rub his nose in it. Just clean everything up without making a fuss and continue with toilet training puppy as usual. As puppy gets older and a routine get established these accidents will disappear. Remember even human babies have accidents after they have been fully potty trained, how can you accept more from puppy? Puppy is also only a baby!

When toilet training puppy he should be able to master the basics very easy and very soon, it will take a longer time though to reach the point where puppy start to regularly ask to go to the potty of his own accord. This final stage of toilet training puppy may take up to three months. Be patient, keep to the routine and there should not be too many accidents. Remember using the positive reinforcement by praising puppy when he is successful and by using the phrase he has to become accustomed to. Proper toilet training of puppy takes a little effort but, it is well worth it in the long run to do it the correct way from the very beginning. Enjoy your puppy!
